The idea for the space of Jupiter was: What if Jupiter was a person, how would he live?
Well, first of all he wouldn´t be a human, he would be a kentaur, roaming the vast pine forests of Pelion in Greece. Jupiter is the planet of expansion, and this Jupiter is a character who has expanded his life through travelling, both physically and intellectually,
Making this picture, felt like going back to childhood and playing with my much beloved doll house. I made books for Jupiter that I believe he loves to read – like travel stories and books on different religions. Of course he has a collection of souvenirs from his journeys and a globe so he can plan new ones. The almost empty whisky bottle on the table, indicates his tendency to overdo things and be a bit too much.
Most of the fabrics in this picture are reclaimed materials. The bear rug is made from real mink (my mum´s old mink fur coat, that she donated to me when she discovered how politically incorrect it was to wear one). The leather topping Jupiter´s desk is from the cushions on our old sofa, while the cosy blanket is knitted from some leftover wool and the windcatcher comes from a crochet dolly.
Jupiter rules the sign of Sagitarrius and would be a great gift to someone with Sun or Ascendant in Sag.
