The Escape is a picture of the day I divorced.

Anyone who has been through a divorce knows that it can kill you. While the decision came slowly, over several years, the departure happened very abruptly. Our son, who was in Norway, had suddenly been hospitalized, I needed to be with him and booked the first flight. After more than 20 years in Greece, I left not only my marriage, but also my business, my home, friends and family. My whole life. My only physical luggage was one big suitcase.

It felt like an escape. The sense of freedom was tremendous.

Later, I studied the astrological chart of that day, and discovered how the the planets had lined up perfectly for this to happen. Neptune had over time been in an harmonious aspect with Jupiter, feeding my dreams about a bigger life.

In my textile work, Pegasus, the child of Neptune, is flying me into a better future, where my dreams have a chance to live and prosper.

Jupiter aligned with the Sun, promised expansion, that I would grow into myself. And then the New Moon, bang on my ascendant, an invitation to a new and fresh start.

As always: As above, so below.

The work has been made with mainly reclaimed fabrics, a mixture of tweed, mohair, cotton and linen, plus beads. Several of the scraps have been dyed with onion shell. The velvet background is an old Ikea- cushion cover, while Pegasus is made with tweed from a jacket bought in a second hand store in Madrid. Handstitched to canvas. Signed and mounted on a wooden frame (made by Kristian). Ready to hang on the wall.
